Tithes and Offerings Scriptures… What motivates us to give?

 

 

Here are just ten Scriptural passages to be considered on this topic. There are many, many
more. These just barely scratch the surface. I give these to encourage all of us to see “giving
back” unto the Lord as an act of trusting obedience; and also, one of privilege.

This is a heart condition … for all of us … for each person.  (Excepts out of The Holy Bible NIV edition)

1)We give out of love … Love for God and for His Work and love for others …                                                                                       a) John 13:34-35

2)We give out of worship … Consider Able and Cain … Able gave his best with a surrendered
and pure heart. Cain’s intent in giving was out of obligation. at best; but, more out of
jealousy and refusal to yield to the God                                                                                                                                                a) Genesis 4:1-5

3) We give “out of our need” … Jesus speaks to the widow’s mite … She gave her all and showed
her total trust and dependency upon her Lord.                                                                                                                                        a) Luke 21 :1-4

4) We give to be “in a right relationship” with God … Repentance makes us aware of His Holy
Hand over us, and not that He has to but that He wants to, God says, “Let me prove it to
you personally.”                                                                                                                                                                                 a) Malachi 3:6-12

5)We give to make known God’s goodness and protection over us … A testimony before the
world by Abraham before Melchizedek of Salem.                                                                                                                                    a) Genesis 14:17-24

6)We give to acknowledge what’s rightfully the Lord’s … Render unto Caesar, render unto God
so that peace may be ours and we can do that which He has called us to do.                                                                                          a) Mark 12:13-17

7)We give to honor the Lord … He has provided. We can not be prideful in what we have. It is
His and always has been and will be. We are to praise Him and give Him glory.                                                                                     a) Proverbs 3:9-10

8)We give out of joy … Joy leads to thanksgiving for all He has placed into our hands as His stewards                                                    a) 2 Cor 9:6-12

9)We give to prosper … As we are blessed, so can we bless. God acknowledges our faith.                                                                        a) Ps 1 :1-3

10)We give to be partners in this Holy and Divine Work.                                                                                                                       a) Phil 4:15-18

* Tithes and Offerings are two different things. Tithes deal with the first 10th of our “returning back” unto the Lord. Offerings are over and above the tithe and show our tender heart for Him.
* As Paul chalienges … May our lives be a living sacrifice before the Lord and others. Blessings.
